So my wife and I are on our way home from the photographers studio where we provided tremendous assistance to the entire film crew, and here I am describing to you my top 3 favorite pieces of luggage ever. Maybe you are like me, a frequent traveler, and while we might not travel as often as photographers, we still utilize our trusty bags to bring what we need for the trip. Well you would think that with the invention of luggage you couldn’t have too many, right? Well not necessarily; there are now a plethora of luggage styles thatreamline style and comfort. Manufacturers have designed a wide array of luggage that now comes in different sizes and shapes. It seems as though everything from suitcases to totes have become available to us with some sort of luggage accessory to utilize. I could go on and on describing the different styles available but you might want to know a little more about how they came to be.
In the beginning, luggage was nothing more than a piece of luggage attached to a person’s body. These were usually lightweight pieces of material like clothing fading into colors as the traveler’s wares changed with time. As horses and other sports persons fell sick and died (because they were in too much of a hurry) from the many exotic and unusual illnesses that were rampant during those times, luggage became more of a necessity. Sailors, Modern block headed inventors, artists and astronomers also contributed to the invention of luggage. Tredlines were created to alternatives that were themselves invented. Still the bags remained as the premier conveyance device for the movement, trade and work of people in those times.
Ladies Luggage
As far as luggage goes, I would have to say the early to mid 1920’s mid 20th century creations were the utmost in comfort and ride. The luggage pieces created at this time are usually streamlined in shape and loaded with pockets. They are usually double stitched and very often utilized rubber soles. The 20th century luggage creators created with an eye to advertise and sell their piece to the traveling public. They usually utilized brown or black leather so if you ever owned one or more, you may have found them in many different colors as well. The shape of the 20th century luggage was created such that it could be stowed away easily and would not take up to much space as carry on luggage; they were efficient as well. The creation of the lightweight luggage was done in a way that it would be lightweight but at the same time, it would be strong enough to with withstand the impacts of travel.
The 20th century luggage had its fair share of designers and importers. The top names of the era were Samsonite, American Leather (led by protection from tourists), Latic and Packard. The luggage created in the Samsonite signature series is the Samsonite Aspire Lite. This Samsonite collection was one of the earliest to utilize plastic materials such as polycarbonate toome. This material is lightweight, yet strong enough to withstand the most harsh of tests. They are also resistant to stains and discoloration.
Weighing in at a mere 1.3 pounds, this 6 foot piece of luggage was also one of the tiniest Samsonite offerings at the time. The Packard collection was a particularly impressive collection created that was recognized for the entire world. The brand is celebrated for their technical innovations. The designer’s original creations were novel, stylish and advanced. The Silhouette collection is fantastic to see created using Samsonite’s original designs. These features are fully functional and add that extra touch of class that makes the bag really stand out.
